STEM Construction Challenges for Homeschoolers
For ages 7-10 years and caregiver. Join Kim Waterman* for a STEM Construction Challenges series for four Mondays.
Effective STEM learning requires you to analyze information, evaluate designs, reflect on your thinking, synthesize new ideas, and propose creative solutions. All of these skills are vital to becoming an independent, critical thinker. Explore engineering design concepts: design and build simple structures, find functional solutions to challenges, see how everyone’s answer to the challenge is different.
10/4: Build a bridge using newspaper and masking tape: has to support 5 matchbox cars
10/11: Library Holiday “Indigenous People’s Day”
10/18: Build a tower with popsicle sticks and paper clips: needs to be strong and tall
10/25: Create a Recycled Creature: bring your best recycled items to contribute (egg cartons, small boxes, rolls, lids, etc): has to stand on it’s own.
11/1: Create a structure using marshmallows and toothpicks: has to be sturdy
Regardless of vaccination status, masks are requested for ages 5 & up and please use safe distancing practices.
