Author Talk: Where the Pulse Lives by John Loughery
A Connecticut native, John Loughery spent most of his adult life in New York City and returned to New England in 2023 following his retirement after 45 years of teaching fifth graders through college sophomores. A finalist for a Pulitzer Prize for his biography of the artist John Sloan, he is the author of seven books, most recently Where the Pulse Lives: A Memoir of Growing Up Gay in the 20th Century. In this book, he discusses, among other topics, gay political activism, the impact of AIDS on American life, traveling the country in the 1990s to interview older gay men for his book The Other Side of Silence, and his 49-year relationship with his husband, Tom. A Q-and-A session will follow John’s remarks.
