100th anniversary of Melville’s Billy Budd with Jana Laiz
Saturday, May 25 from 2PM – 3PM
@ Ramsdell Library in Housatonic
In 1924 a small novella was published to wild acclaim. That novel was Billy Budd, Sailor by Herman Melville.
One hundred years later, we celebrate the centennial of the book that brought Herman Melville the fame he so richly deserved, but never received when he was alive. Melville spent thirteen years living and writing in the Berkshires, where he wrote Moby-Dick and many other works. Berkshire County Historical Society at Herman Melville’s Pittsfield home, Arrowhead, is a museum alive with history.
Join Arrowhead Writer-In-Residence Emeritus and Education Coordinator, Jana Laiz in a lively discussion of Melville, his life and work, and the secret behind his posthumous success.
