Creating Art from Books! for Kids
Join the inaugural Artist-in-Residence, Michelle Raszl, for a hands-on workshop where children can transform old books into stunning works of art! Through a wide variety of techniques, kids will explore the endless creative possibilities of repurposed pages while learning about sustainability in art. This engaging session encourages imagination and self-expression, guided by a professional artist passionate about giving new life to forgotten books. Perfect for young creators of all skill levels!
Michelle Raszl will be the first AIR at Ramsdell. Michelle moved to the Berkshires in 2012 for closer proximity to mountains. A librarian by training and by day, documentation and archival principles often enter her work. Her work is also informed by the patterns, concepts, and material behaviors found in the natural world – for example, sedimentary rock and canyons carved from water. The theme of time is a constant in her work, and appears as accumulation, evidence of time passing, and aging. She uses discarded books in her work, objects that inherently carry many meanings, namely connection to knowledge, to history, and to the collective human experience.
